No commission fees or monthly costs; OrderUp empowers restaurants to reduce costs, and provide the best mobile-ordering and payment experience for guests.
A little bit about us:
We're a small team out of Toronto, Ontario, who have worked every level and every position a restaurant has to offer.
But we're also a team that has successfully built disruptive technology.
We believe that innovation in the restaurant industry has remained stagnant for too long and somethings going to break. The restaurants that embrace new technology and recognize the shifts in consumer behaviour will succeed.
Whether you're an industry veteran, just getting started, or a hospitality guru visionary – we invite you to join us on this journey.
At OrderUp, we hate waiting. And we're pretty sure most people do too.
Picture this scenario:
You're out dining with your friends at a local go-to restaurant.
Everything is perfect.
Great food, great drinks, great service, great times! Truly a night to remember.
Until it's time to pay and leave.
Your server is nowhere to be found.
You wait, and wait, only to see them emerge from the back of house a few minutes later.
You try to wave them down, but then you notice the family sitting next to you.
With a baby. A crying baby.
The server rushes over to their table like a superhero with a terminal in one hand, and bill in other.
Truly saving the day for everyone.
The staff member nods in your direction, signalling that you're up next.
You sigh with relief.
After a couple of minutes, the friendly staff member shows up to your table, "Sorry about that, together or separate?"
"Separate" you reply.
There's no way you're paying for your buddy Greg's wife's 6 glasses of chardonnay.
"No problem" says the staff member as they run back to the POS to begin, what must be a grueling process of splitting up a plethora of apps, drinks and mains.
A few long minutes later, the staff member comes back with 7 bills, none of which truly match up to any member of the parties orders.
"Uhm, excuse me – I actually didn't eat any of the chicken wings. I'm vegan" blurts out Greg's wife.
The feeling restlessness starts to kick in.
"Oh, I'm so sorry about that" says the server "One minute please"
At this point, you've been waiting for about 10 minutes to pay a bill. You, and everyone else at the table just wants to get out of there.
Shortly after, the server returns with new bills for all. Hooray!
The staff member begins passing around bills and splitting up the terminals.
You're up first.
Tip: 20%
You tap okay.
Done.
"Would you like your receipt?"
"No, I'm fine. Thank you very much" you reply with an overwhelming sense of relief.
Over the next few minutes, the rest of the table settles up with no problems...
Until it's Gregs turn to pay.
You think to yourself "Thank God, all I want to do is get out of here and lie in bed"
"Would you like your receipt?" says the server.
"Actually, yes" says Greg.
You do your best to hold it together, it's just a receipt right?
Like 30 seconds and you're out of here.
Greg and the server look at each other with dismay as the staff member mutters...
"Oh so sorry, looks like the terminal is actually out of paper, be right back!"
You once again, take a deep breath, and sigh... but this time, it's not with relief.
You flip over your phone, only to realize you told your partner you'd be home in 20, 25 minutes ago.
You say your goodbyes to your friends, and everyone gets on their way.
Since you've maybe had maybe one too many wobbly pops, and can feel that round of tequila that Greg insisted on ordering – you decide it's best to get an Uber home.
Open the app, and within a few clicks, your ride is on the way.
Fast forward two hours, you're lying in bed. Slightly restless, but also exhausted from the great food you ate earlier that night.
You're tired, but you can't quite seem to cross that barrier into a deep slumber.
You can't put your finger on it...
You start thinking about the dining experience.
The food was great, the service was great, the food was great... This was a grand-slam of a night!
All of a sudden, you realize...
You were able to order and pay for an Uber in less time than it took to pay the bill.
"Why did it take so long to pay? Why can I order an Uber from my phone, but not pay for a meal? I can buy a plane ticket from my phone in a tenth of the time!"
You think to yourself "There's gotta be a better way" as you close your eyes, drifting to sleep.
The end.
The truth is, time is valuable. You know this as a restaurant operator and as a human. In today's day and age, the majority of consumers don't wait for anything. Everything is on demand.
A recent study found that 70% of diners would be less likely to return to a restaurant if they experienced a long wait time, and consumers tend to overestimate wait times by 36%!
Restaurants shouldn't sacrifice great service because it looks different than what it did 10 or 20 years ago.
We're to help restaurants get up to speed with the latest technology, without the big price tag.
Do people actually like using OrderUp?
What we see is younger generations (millennials & gen-z) gravitating to this type of technology – and actually seeking it out. You can see for yourself in our post: How do consumers feel about QR order & payment, where we analyze Google & Yelp reviews from real diners who have and continue to use our product.
